An introduction to Raga Darbari

Raga Darbari belongs to Kanada family this raga is also known as Darbari Kanada. This raga was brought into India by the legendry composer of his times Miyan Tansen. Tansen was a greatest composer of sixteenth century. It is said that while he used to sing a raga animals from the jungle comes to listen it. Even his singing could cause the rain in hot weather. This raga belongs to Asavari thaat.

Raga Darbari was a favorite raga of Emperor Akbar the great. Akbar was a great admirer of music and has employed several good composers in his court but his favorite one was Miyan Tansen. Tansen was a courtier of Emperor Akbar where he used to sing different ragas to please the emperor and his family.

This raga is beautifully performed by Ustad Fateh Ali Khan in the concert.

An introduction to Raga Malkauns

India possesses a variety of classical and non classical music. In music each and every song either it is a vocal one or an instrumental it is always based on some of the raga. Malkauns is also one of the ragas of Indian classical music and it comes among one of the oldest classic ragas of Indian music. It belongs to the family of Shaivait music school.

This instrumental music is played on Shehnai (Trumpeted) by the legend Ustad Bismillah Khan. Bismillah Khan was a well known Shehnai player around the world.

Chhup gaya koyi re door se pukaar ke is a popular song of 1957 Indian movie titled “Champakali”. This beautiful song was sung by Lata Mangeshkar. This movie was produced by Filmistan a famous movie production company of India. Direction of the movie was done by the famous film director Nandlal Juswant. Music was scored by versatile music director Hemant Kumar while the songs were written by famous poet Rajinder Krishan.

The whole movie runs between the triangle of Madho (hero of the movie), Raju (Heroin) daughter of the tribe chief and Veera (villain).
