Introduction to Habanera
Habanera is a popular and most
famous aria introduced in 1875 at opera Carmen by Georges Bizet. He adapted the
score of this aria from “El Arreglito” which was originally composed by
Sebastian Yradier a Spanish musician. Bizet took it as a folk song but was
realized by the others that what he is using is a composition of some other
composer who has died about 10 years before. Bizet added a note to the vocal
score of Carmen to acknowledge its source.
